Mentoring
United Way's Campaign for Mentors is an advocate for the expansion of youth mentoring and a resource for mentors and mentoring programs. CFM works with more than 85 different mentoring programs throughout the region by recruiting volunteers and promoting mentoring relationships through media campaigns, providing technical assistance to programs and offering mentor training to potential volunteers. Established in Philadelphia in 1990 by George M. Ross and William H. Gray III, the campaign is a cooperative effort of business people, educators, social activists and entrepreneurs.

Technology
United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania’s nonprofit technology workshop series, TechConnect, will now offer a certificate of completion to local nonprofit organization staff seeking a high-quality of technology expertise specifically for nonprofit decision makers who may or may not have a technical background. The curriculum focuses on technology related issues facing nonprofits today developed to help foster critical dialogue about integrating mission-based technology. Scheduled nonprofit technology workshops include: Part I & II: Writing Technology Grant Proposals & IT Storytelling – 11/12/07; Part I & II: Technical Decision Making for the Non-Technical Manager & IT Budgeting – 01/16/08; and Part I & II: Checklist for Healthy IT Systems & Emerging Technologies – 04/23/08.

Topics include: An Introduction to Agency Continuity Planning; Evacuation and Shelter-in-Place Considerations; IT and Data Backup; and Staff Planning and Policies.
